Hysterectomy is the name of the surgical procedure to remove the uterus.
In some cases the cervix, fallopian tubes, or ovaries may also be removed at the same time.
Women now have many options to consider before having a hysterectomy thanks to advanced medical and technological treatments. If a hysterectomy is needed, the doctors at OBGYN Associates offer compassionate and expert care. They will always explore all of the appropriate treatments. Many conditions can be treated with more conservative options.
There are three types of hysterectomies. You can discuss these with your doctor:
- Total hysterectomy: Removes all of the uterus, including the cervix
- Partial or subtotal hysterectomy: only the uterus is removed, leaving the cervix
- Radical hysterectomy: Surgical removal of the uterus, cervix, and upper part of the vagina
If needed, your doctor will discuss hormone replacement therapy and ways to manage menopause.
If you are having gynecologic symptoms, please schedule an appointment for a thorough evaluation at one of our offices.
